Shaping The Future

Coromandel's Girl Child Scholarship

The Coromandel Girl Child Education Scheme (CGCES) was conceptualised with the aim of providing educational assistance to girls in class IX-XII and encourages them to continue their education. It sets out to achieve equality of educational opportunities and promotes the development of talent in rural areas by educating talented rural girl children in government schools.

This programme launched in 2005 has been supporting the educational needs and aims to:
  • Reduce the percentage of rural girl child school drop-outs.
  • Enthuse the rural girl child to compete for the award.
  • Encourage the rural girl child to go for higher education.

In addition to providing scholarships to girl child beneficiaries, career counselling and life skill training programs are also conducted for the girl children, to progress in life. Till date, more than 5000 girls have benefitted from this program.

Supporting
The First Generation
Learner

We have partnered with IIM Ahmedabad Alumni Association, Hyderabad Chapter to provide quality education at Udbhav School. Located in an under-privileged neighbourhood in Hyderabad, the school nurtures 600+ students and gives quality education to first generation learners. We follow a modern participatory teaching methodology and ensure an all-round growth to impart holistic education and make them ‘life ready’.

Support The Education Needs Of The Special Children

Balavidyalaya is a non-residential early intervention centre for the new born to 5 years old children with hearing impairment. Established in 1969, it is one of the first institutions in India, which stresses on the importance of early mediation for children with hearing impairment and help them in acquiring verbal language skills. The goal is to help children make the best use of their residual hearing through constant use of suitable hearing aids and develop appropriate languages skills. What is truly remarkable is the 100 percent success rates of Balavidyalaya in making its students learn to speak. Coromandel has been supporting this noble cause and has assisted in developing infrastructure to enable the right learning environment. We have built an auditorium and contributed learning aids for the development of the children.

Healthcare

We recognise the need to support the government health delivery system for effective primary healthcare. Within this larger objective, Coromandel has undertaken several initiatives with rural communities focused on promoting integrated healthcare and developing health seeking and behavioural responses.

Coromandel Medical Centres

To ensure accessibility to preventive healthcare near our operating areas, we established Coromandel Medical Centres (CMCs) at Ennore, Vizag and Sarigam. These initiatives are the outcome of a baseline study undertaken which accentuated the lack of healthcare facilities as one of the prime challenges and a concern for communities. The CMCs cater to the medical needs of communities located in the vicinity. On an average, more than 7000 people avail the services on a monthly basis. These centres offer out-patient facilities including Injections/IV Fluids, Nebulisation, and Instant Sugar Testing. Annually, we are reaching out to more than one lakh patients, supporting their medical needs and offering consultation services.

Paediatric Ward GGH - A Model of Care & Quality

We have been supporting the Paediatric ward at the Government General Hospital (GGH), Kakinada catering to the health needs of critically ill children. In 2013, we entered into a Public Private Partnerships (PPP) model, to uplift the quality of care meted out in the paediatric ward by refurbishing the ward and providing equipment support to uplift the quality of medical services. The ward is projected as a Model Facility for the hospital and has been showcased to other companies for replication. Over the years, the ward has provided medical attention to the critically ill children, reducing the mortality rate from 11.4% to 6.6% by improving quality of treatment among infants. For its initiatives in GGH, Coromandel has won prestigious National Award from ‘Public Relations Society of India (PRSI)’ in the category of Best CSR project for Childcare.

Hrudaya - Curing a Little Heart

Hrudaya – Cure a Little Heart Foundation, was founded in June 2005 with a vision to build a world class organization that provides treatment for children with heart disease (under the age of twelve) and to provide education, training and research opportunities to advance treatment options for improving the condition of pediatric heart treatment globally. The organization caters to the medical needs of children belonging to weaker economic backgrounds who cannot afford a surgery. Coromandel has been supporting this cause by funding surgeries for children.

Coromandel Hospital

In 2020, Coromandel established an outpatient hospital to address the healthcare needs of the communities in and around Kakinada. In a recent community perception study, there was an identified need to add more diagnostic services to the Coromandel Medical Centre. The identified needs are being addressed by the health care services at the Coromandel hospital. The hospital offers services of a well-equipped diagnostic laboratory, ophthalmologist, dentist, physiotherapist along with pharmacy services, where medicines are provided on a cost-to-cost basis.

Community care & Development

Coromandel envisions making a positive contribution to the underprivileged communities by supporting a wide range of socio-economic, educational and health initiatives. Towards this, we are working at strengthening community institutions by forging strong partnerships with the community and government bodies so that development models can become replicable and self-sustaining.

Creating Alternate Livelihood Opportunities

The Livelihood Intervention Programme started with health awareness sessions for women. Later, the groups were strengthened to initiate a larger Programme. These groups of women are engaged in making gloves that are used by Coromandel’s operations team at our Vizag plant. The glove manufacturing operations are being scaled up to increase the involvement of women and provide an opportunity for them to earn an alternate income. More women are being trained and other skills are also being added to enhance income at homes, thereby empowering women.During the Covid 19 pandemic, these women groups took the lead in developing low cost masks to improve personal hygiene among the local communities.

Sustaining Lives During Natural
Calamities

As a leading Agri solutions player in India, Coromandel has always supported the Government during calamities and remains committed towards community development. Our relief activities are tailored to support the conditions in the disaster hit regions and provide immediate succour. From the provision of basic amenities like safe drinking water and food to ensuring supplies of essential commodities, we have always served the communities in our operating areas immediately after any calamity.
We have been supporting the communities during natural calamities like floods, cyclones, Covid-19 etc., by extending support and volunteering in the relief operations.

Agri-skill Retail Training Program

The project provides vocational skill training to underprivileged from economically disadvantaged backgrounds in rural areas for employment or self-employment, thereby helping them to build confidence and contribute to improving their socio-economic conditions. The training is provided on retail and Agri based skills which would help them to be economically engaged in their respective areas and not migrate to urban areas in search of better economic opportunities.
