Environment Care

As a leading agri solutions provider in India, we constantly operate and transact in an environment that closely impacts the ecology and touches the society at large. We understand our responsibility towards maintaining the ecological balance and remain committed towards maintaining a sustainable ecosystem. We are continuously improving our Environmental Management practices. Our plants are amongst the greenest manufacturing units in India, with around 45 percent of the area under green belt coverage.

We have been constantly pushing ourselves on reducing our carbon and water footprint by technological interventions and aim to achieve zero liquid discharge operations. To bring transparency in our environmental compliance processes, we have deployed online emission monitoring systems across our manufacturing units which are connected to Pollution Control Board websites.

Coromandel Kakinada Birds Paradise

Coromandel Kakinada Birds Paradise

Ever heard of factory premises transformed into a breathtakingly beautiful bird’s haven? Welcome to Kakinada ‘Birds Paradise’. What was once a land with a marshy water-logged area has today transformed into a serene, lush green belt proving to be an ideal habitat for countless diverse species of birds while greatly contributing to biodiversity and conservation of the ecosystem.
In collaboration with the EGREE foundation, Coromandel’s Kakinada plant surroundings have become the largest breeding site in the East Godavari district for a variety of bird species, including the Grey Heron and Painted Storks
The flora and fauna here are diverse and unique to the eco-system and house around 100 species of birds mainly Waterfowls, Waders including Flamingos, Raptors, Bustards, Coursers, Cranes, Sandgrouse, Larks, Shrikes, Wheatears, and Chats.
Our efforts at the Kakinada plant have been well recognized and have featured in reputed platforms like United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Discovery channel.

Land Reclamation - Converting Phosphogypsum Heaps into Green Belt

Phosphogypsum, a by-product of phosphoric acid manufacturing, has globally faced disposal issues and its primary means of management is storage in stacks. Accumulation of phosphogypsum heaps not only leads to land losses but also causes dust emissions, soil & ground water contamination which can lead to discontent amongst the community and Government.
In order to overcome such challenges, Coromandel converted its gypsum handling from wet to dry stacking which has reduced the moisture content in the gypsum and eliminated the water requirement to carry the gypsum in the slurry form. Further the gypsum with reduced moisture content is supplied to cement industry and in agriculture / POP manufacturers.
We are also working on soil remediation initiatives and converting waste land into plantation.

Utilising Paddy Straw For Bio-Char, Bio-Fertiliser And Energy Purposes

India, the second largest agro-based economy with year-round crop cultivation, generates a large amount of agricultural waste, including crop residues. In the absence of adequate sustainable management practices, Indian farmers burn the crop residue, causing excessive particulate matter emissions and air pollution.
Coromandel is working with Punjab Agricultural University and Aston University on the technology for converting rice residue as a biochar and its utilization as soil amendment. Biochar is produced by pyrolysis of biomass and is used as a soil ameliorant for both carbon sequestration and soil health benefits.

During the process of converting the straw into biochar, most of the mineral nutrients that are present in the biomass are concentrated into the biochar fraction, hence soil applications of biochar is a convenient means of recycling those nutrients to agricultural lands.
Coromandel has been demonstrating the value of excess biomass to the farmers and initial results have been quite promising. The commercial benefits for the technology will be huge for the farming community and will create a circular economy and a positive environmental impact.

Cultivating Sustainability: Ankleshwar’s Green Revolution

Coromandel International Limited, in partnership with Saath Gramin Trust, is driving a transformation in Ankleshwar through vermicomposting—a sustainable solution to enrich soil, reduce waste, and empower communities. With farmers, NGOs, and industry members coming together, the initiative has fostered awareness, training, and hands-on adoption of organic farming practices. Women have emerged as key changemakers, strengthening local agriculture and livelihoods. The formation of Sahajivan Krishi Farmers Producer Company Limited further cements the commitment to green farming and self-reliance. Coromandel’s vision extends beyond crops—it’s about nurturing communities, restoring soil health, and shaping a greener, more sustainable future.
